The goal of spelling instruction is for students to learn common spelling patterns and apply them to their writing. Often, students memorize words for the weekly test, but they are unable to transfer their learning to their writing. We will teach lessons in class that incorporate writing words with specific patterns, and identifying these patterns in text. Our goal is to integrate these skills as much as possible rather than assigning lists in isolation.
If you would like your student to practice lists of spelling words, you can use the Spelling City website below.
Spelling City: spellingcity.com is an online resource that students can use to help them practice spelling words.
Directions for getting started:
Click on the “students” tab.
Click “find a list”.
A search box will appear. You can search by teacher and type “Julie Elliott”
The lists are uploaded onto the site, but they're not in numerical order so scroll down until you find the correct number.
Once you’re all set up, students can choose from “teach me,” “test me,” or “play a game.” There are a variety of activities for the students to work on.
