Writing

We are using a variety of materials this year to help improve student writing. The students will participate in guided practice of various skills, independent writing, one-on-one conferencing, as well as share time. We will use materials from Lucy Calkins as we explore units of study in opinion, information, and narrative writing. The students will practice their writing skills throughout the day during reading, math, science, and social studies.

The following links will take you to websites that may help with writing skills:

Grammar Practice Park: This site from Harcourt School Publishers includes some games to help with grammar skills.

ABCYA Educational website that incorporates language arts and math skills along with beginning computer skills.

My Story Maker Students can create their own digital stories. They can choose their characters, setting, and topic. Children have many opportunities for creativity, as they can change the setting and add details to their stories. Students can preview before they print and share their stories.

Storybird This website allows students to choose from a variety of art sets and use the images to create online storybooks.

Handwriting Practice:
Lowercase Cursive: This website shows each of the lowercase letters and has an animation to show the correct way to write each letter.
Uppercase Cursive: Same as above, but with uppercase letters.
